4 Things That Will Make Your Home (and you!) Healthier

You exercise. Take vitamins. You’re even on keto. But somehow, you still fall ill. Maybe, just maybe, it’s not you. It’s your house that’s unhealthy and that’s affecting you.

So what do you do? Make it healthy by considering these four things: air quality, dust and pests, building materials, and water quality.

Air Quality

Outdoors, the air’s not quite so bad because, through the magic of convection and wind, things like spores, mold, volatile organic compounds, and pollutants get dispersed (mostly) harmlessly into the atmosphere. However, stagnant air indoors is another story. To maintain air quality, you’ll want to have an air purifier.

Improve it with: Air purifiers

Ye ol’ air purifier does what the average natural wind can’t; filter out viruses, bacteria, dust, pollen, mold, and toxins in the air. So when picking air purifiers, you should think about:

HEPA filters, in short, remove tiny stuff in the air that could get stuck in your lungs.

Ionizers charge particles in the air so that if they don't get trapped in the HEPA filter, they’ll clump together and fall to the floor.

Active carbon filters work to deodorise odours and neutralise airborne toxins.

UV-C lights kill off any bacteria, virus, fungus, mold, or mildew that HEPA and/or carbon filters miss.

Dust And Pests

If there’s a square foot that dust can happily settle on, so too will pests. Nothing bothers them there. And neither are doing any favours to your health:

Pests are pathogens for all sorts of disease AND they poop all over the place.

Dust can contain anything from dead skin cells to spores to chemicals to even bug poop. And dust makes the perfect vehicle for these things to get into your lungs.

Improve it with: Bagless Vacuums

Vacuuming prevents the build-up of dust and, incidentally, keeps the pest count low. When picking up a vacuum, think about:

Bagless vacuums. They’re better at sucking air even when they’re full. Bagged ones lose suction as the bag fills up.

HEPA filters. Because what’s the point of vacuuming if it’s going to be recirculated back into the room, amirite?

Building Materials

Air purifiers and vacuums are active ways you can keep a house healthy. However, there are ways to do it passively too. Like with building materials.

Improve it with: Antimicrobial and low-VOC Paint

Choosing healthier paints is the way to go. These include paints that:

are antiviral and antibacterial. These kill off microorganisms with a touch yet completely harmless to you.

are anti fungal. They prevent build-up of spore clouds that mold and fungus release, which usually clog up the lungs and trigger allergies.

have low or no VOC content. VOCs are what helps paint dry fast but irritates lungs, skin, and eyes with prolonged exposure.

Water Quality

Water is life. Except when it’s loaded with life threatening microorganisms, particles, and/or chemicals. So having a top notch water purifier is essential.

Improve it with: WELLS True Tankless UV+

This purifier is all kinds of healthy. It’s got:

Tankless Technology – no stagnant water means no bacterial build-up in the water
